Fraud alert: The Canada Carbon Tax Rebate Scam

To protect our members, we’re sharing the latest information on a new scam that’s circulating via email and text. The Canadian Police Services are warning the public about the Canada Carbon Tax Rebate Scam.

Here's how it works:

• You’ll receive a text or email that appears to be from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). It claims to offer a rebate that must be accepted through e-Transfer.
• If you click the link, you’ll be directed to a phishing website designed to steal your banking information.

Remember: The CRA will never send rebates or refunds by e-Transfer or text message.

Please note that this scam is likely to resurface periodically, particularly when the Canada Carbon Tax Rebate is sent out. These dates are:

• January 15
• April 15
• July 15
• October 15
