Place of Pride is an exciting, first-of-its-kind project that Cambrian is proud to participate in the financing of.
Located in Winnipeg’s West Broadway neighbourhood, Place of Pride is an affordable housing complex for members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community ages 55+. It's also located right next to Rainbow Resource Centre!
Affordable housing remains one of the biggest economic challenges facing Canadians today, and we’re so proud to be involved in projects like Place of Pride, which directly address that need.
Last year, we visited Place of Pride while the building was still under construction.
Along with Teressa Friesen, we visited again last week to attend the Opening Celebration!
We heard from Brian Pincott, Chair of the Board at Westminster Housing Society, who spoke about just how much work it was to get this project underway, in partnership with Rainbow Resource Centre.
Place of Pride was the first new construction that Westminster Housing Society has taken on – all their previous 30+ projects have been refurbishments of older homes. Cambrian has been the proud financing partner on nearly every one of their properties!
At the event, we also heard from Matthew Cutler, Chair of the Board at Rainbow Resource Centre, who spoke about how important Place of Pride is in helping meet the needs of our community.
The work that Rainbow Resource Centre and Westminster Housing Society have done to realize this project is incredible!
Place of Pride features 21 rent-subsidized units, including 4 that are fully accessible.
There’s still work to be done before Place of Pride is fully complete. The next steps are to connect Place of Pride to Rainbow Resource Centre next door, giving residents easy access to its support services, like private counselling rooms and community meeting rooms.
There are also plans to add community connection spaces, including a communal kitchen and coffee shop on the main floor, which will be open to the public.
Cambrian has worked alongside Westminster Housing Society since 1995. We’re proud to support projects like Place of Pride, which directly address housing issues in our community. We can’t wait to see how the project evolves over the next few years!
We would be happy to discuss your unique situation with you.
Our goal is to make complex topics like this one, simple.
